It's a cold life...

...being an Irish Rugby fan.

Thanks to B's dad's connections we had tickets to the first match of the 6 Nations - Ireland v France last night at Croke Park. There are at least 2 things I don't understand about rugby - why the season has to start in the winter (surely spring/summer would be nicer, no?) and why Ireland can have a stadium built to hold 80,000+ people but not think to build a roof on it. All I can say is thank heavens it wasn't snowing and/or raining!

List of items required to watch Ireland v France in below zero temperatures:

- 2 pairs of socks (worn at the same time)
- 1 pair of comfortable shoes (exact quote from K - "uh, B? Why don't our tickets have seat numbers? Why does it say standing?" - good old Hill 16 and its total lack of seats)
- 1 pair of leggings, worn under...
- 1 pair of jeans
- 1 ultra-warm Lululemon tank top, worn under...
- 1 long sleeved shirt, worn under...
- 1 fleecy hoodie, worn under...
- 1 MAC windbreaker/raincoat (just in case of rain/snow)
- 1 very warm toque
- 1 pair fleecy gloves (optional - 1 heating pad, normally used for sore backs)

Of course, it helps that we were packed in like sardines on Hill 16 so that added extra body warmth! It also helped having B to cuddle up to! Boyfriends are great, aren't they? And multipurpose!

It was a great match as well. Apparently Ireland hadn't beaten France in the last 4 or 5 years, so everyone was obviously delighted with the win.

It's so nice to support a winning team again (I'm talking to you, Vancouver Canucks!)
